5 Techniques for Effective PPC Communication

Do you find that you lose some clarity when you are communicating about a PPC campaign to your clients? Most people find that it is difficult to put the PPC-centric language into understandable form as well as deal with mountains of numerical data and translate all of this into something clients understand. For one thing, many clients do not really care about anything except results; for another, they may not have the vocabulary to truly comprehend the technical aspects of PPC.

Fortunately, there are ways to communicate information to your clients without scaring them away or losing them in a lot of technical jargon. You want your clients to understand any problems that may arise in the course of a campaign, what the goals of the campaign are, and how to tell if you have reached them. Here are some tips for communicating PPC information to your clients clearly and concisely and in ways that will help you expand communication between yourself and your non-PPC experts:

1) Map the narrative. You should use a clear and understandable framework for your conversations about PPC campaigns. These must be geared to your client's understanding. Hopefully, your client is beyond the “Dick and Jane” level of communication but if not, simplify the narrative to the point that you can begin to add in

other words or ideas from a basic framework. Use analogies from the client’s own field, if possible.

2) Provide the right amount of detail. Some clients want to know exactly what you are doing; others only want broad strokes. Determine exactly what the client wants and give it to him or her.

3) Celebrate success. One thing clients understand is success. Do not be afraid to boast about your wins and share good information with the client. This will reassure him or her that the money they are spending on “those PPC things” are not in vain.

4) Warn about dangers. Just as you celebrate success, you must point out dangers. If you see something that is wrong, talk about it instead of simply covering it up. Tell the client what you are doing to fix it.

5) Re-sell your services to the client. Every communication is a chance to show the client exactly why he or she hired you in the first place. Use these opportunities to showcase your good talents and to reaffirm your relationship with the client as a trusted friend.
